ReadyBoost
I have flashed my 'bios' to the latest that Dell has available, DXG51A11 this morning. I shall put this information to my local computer shop wizard and see if he thinks "I can handle it" or utilize his considerably broader experience at a price. Sometimes he is very reasonable to my interrogations. <grin> Again

Readyboost.sfcache keeps dissappearing
Well, I might try again, but I think I'd need a larger flash drive to match the pagefile size. As I replied to someone else, it was disappointing to see degradation and no improvement. ReadyBoost moves your pagefile (a file that mimics RAM) from the hard drive to the flash drive, giving it faster access.

I run systems with 4 and 8GB of RAM and there is still performance to be gained by using ReadyBoost. On laptop systems I un with 2GB of memory a 2 or 4GB memory stick again improves overall performance for day to day use. ReadyBoost can be a tricky thing to get working on some flash drives, and a lot of flash drives just aren't fast enough for ReadyBoost. I simply found one of my 2 CPUs running at 100% and the cause ultimately was ReadyBoost. Disabled it and things are again normal. May experiment by reenabling it, then inserting an SD card, but it sounds like this problem is generic to Vista? I also have an iPod, SmartPhone, SD cards, and CompactFlash cards.
